Community Care

Base of Support

Community Care relies on a diverse base of support to provide services in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

CEO Valmay Barkey, former Falls Prevention Co-ordinator Rondi Brown and Jim Bradley, Ontario Minister Responsible for Seniors

Government
Financial support from the Province of Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care accounts for the largest portion of Community Care’s total budget. The Government of Canada funds special projects at the agency, and the City of Kawartha Lakes helps fund the transportation service

United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes
Community Care is a proud member agency of the United Way. Annual funding from the United Way helps support our Elder Abuse education, Meals on Wheels, the Falls Prevention Program, Specialized Transportation and wellness programs such as A Time for Me and the Stroke Survivor Support Groups

Fee for Service
Community Care charges fees for a number of the supports provided to help defray costs of service delivery and program materials. See our Services for Seniors and People with Special Needs for rates and further information.

Fundraising & Donations
A large portion of Community Care’s annual budget must be raised through special initiatives and fundraising. As a registered charitable organization, Community Care welcomes donations from individuals, groups and businesses. Donors can support the agency by taking part in special fundraising events, or donating to the agency in many different ways.

Grants & Foundations
Service clubs and foundations, including the Ontario Trillium Foundation, also make contributions that are essential to ensure that Community Care continues to meet the needs of local residents.

Volunteers
Volunteers are vital to the planning, co-ordination and delivery of services. They also provide invaluable assistance with our many different special events and fundraising initiatives throughout the year.
