Val is a tireless advocate for the support and rights of one and all in our community. Her energy and passion for community building have made her respected among her peers far and wide. 

Val has 25 years of progressive responsibility  and management experience in community home support services, currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes, overseeing 750 volunteers, 110 staff.

Director, Finance & Systems

Tandy began her relationship with Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes as a volunteer on the Board of Directors in June 2004, then became a staff member in September 2008.  As Director of Finance & Systems, Tandy is responsible for management of accounting, financial and statistical reporting and information systems. 

Tandy is a Chartered Accountant with 20 years experience in public accounting practice at BDO Dunwoody LLP where she specialized in audit and information systems supporting clients in municipal and non-profit sectors including lower and upper tier municipalities, hospitals, non-profit housing and other non-profits.  She was also responsible for computer conversion assistance for clients as well as delivery of in-house technology training and staff support to encourage maximum benefit from the use of technology. 

In addition to her involvement with Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes Tandy has also volunteered in support of the local community through the Lindsay and District Chamber of Commerce and as Treasurer of the Lindsay and District Red Cross and her church.  She currently provides bookkeeping and reporting support to Community Care’s Village Housing project and continues to serve as Treasurer of Kawartha Lakes Food Source.

Mike has close to 20 years of experience as a development and communications officer with local non-profit organizations. Prior to joining Community Care in 2005, he was executive director of the United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes for 11 years. He has also worked as resource development co-ordinator for Community Living City of Kawartha Lakes. He is also a former newspaper editor and reporter. 

As marketing and development director with Community Care, Mike oversees the agency’s communications, fundraising and development programs, including the newly-established Community Care Foundation.  He can also usually be found on the front lines of agency special events and presentations. 

Mike is actively involved in the community as a volunteer with several local organizations. He is currently president of the board of directors of the Lindsay & District Chamber of Commerce and is vice-chair of the Official Board at Cambridge Street United Church, Lindsay. He is a past board member of the Kawartha Lakes Minor Lacrosse Association, the Lindsay & District Sports Hall of Fame, the Lindsay Boys & Girls Club and the local branches of the Red Cross and Cancer Society. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club of Lindsay for 19 years and served on the Kinsmen Club of Canada’s national endowment fund for four years.

A Certified Human Resources Professional, Brenda Manion brings 25 years of experience in the business, health care and education sectors to her position as Human Resources Manager with Community Care.  Prior to joining the agency in 2010, she worked with CGI, an international information technology and business solutions company. That came after more than a decade with the HNV Access Centre working for corporate services. Brenda has also worked with the HKPR District Health Unit and taught in the Human Resources Management Program at Fleming College’s School of Business. Raised in Bobcaygeon, she has lived in the City of Kawartha Lakes area most of her life.

Clinical Program Manager

Marie Squires joined Community Care as a volunteer for CHAP (Cardiovascular Health Awareness Program).  In Nov. 2009, Marie became the coordinator of the CHAP program as well as the Stroke Survivor Support Group  In May 2010, Marie became the Clinical Program Manager for the Community Health Centre and is responsible for the management of the CHC health team. 

Marie’s background began with experience as a Registered Nurse in hospital settings.  It also includes 23 years experience  as a manager in the ICU and the Emergency Department at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay.  Marie has also had experience as  an active member with the Ontario Hospital Association Advisory Group for Emergency Departments. 

Marie has been involved with volunteering for the Heart and Stroke and also the Cancer Society. In the past she has been an active volunteer for many groups in the community in which her children were involved, as well as holding executive positions in her church community.

Joan Skelton joined the expanding team at Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes in the new position of Director, Community Support Services in June 2009. As Director, CSS, Joan is responsible for management of the home support, transportation and personal support services of Community Care. 

Joan brings close to 20 years experience in the management of not-for-profit organizations to her role at Community Care, including work as Executive Director of Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, Unit Manager of East Durham Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society and Executive Director of Social Development Council of Ajax Pickering. 

Joan is also an experienced leadership volunteer, having served as President of the Rotary Club of Oshawa and President of numerous charities including Children’s Aid Society of Durham, Catholic Family Services of Durham, and Canadian Mental Health Association, Durham Branch.

Kerri Daley

Kerri Daley began her work with Community Care in 1995 after returning to the community with her family. She has worked with seniors and clients with special needs for over twenty years in the Community Support Services sector. Prior to returning to the City of Kawartha Lakes she co-ordinated a large Meals on Wheels program in North York. 

Kerri has volunteered with numerous non- profit organizations including Girl Guides of Canada, Bloorview Children’s Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation and also served as a board member on Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes. Currently she is volunteer Peer Leader and Master Trainer with the Central East Self Management Program.
In her role as Program Manager at Community Care, she provides leadership to staff and volunteers in both the Lindsay and Fenelon Falls Service Offices. 

 

Program Manager, Specialized Transit

Steve’s interest in his community and serving the people’s needs dates back to a term as Reeve of his township in the early 90’s. Since then he has taken an active interest in the services for those who live in rural communities. Community Care has provided transportation services to seniors and adults with special needs for over 25 years. Transportation is a key service provided.  

 The transportation program, its administrative staff, drivers and volunteers, continually strives to improve the level of service Community Care provides to their clients. For over seventeen years, Steve has worked in the control and distribution of materials for the automotive industry.  Now he is happy to be guiding the transportation services of Community Care. Steve is helping us steer through the growing demand for our services. As we work towards new efficiencies and superior client services, we look to Steve and the other members of the transportation team to help us better service our community and to meet Community Care’s mission.

Linda McLean is the Home Support Program Manager for  Omemee, Janetville, Pontypool area;  Little Britian and Oakwood areas; Woodville, Kirkfield and District; Rosedale, Coboconk, Burnt River, and the Kinmount area, as well as the  Cambray area.

Pat joined Community Care during its infancy in January 1987.  She has watched the enormous growth and transformation of Community Care these many years. 

As a Social Service Worker graduate in 1976 Pat has worked for Women In Transition shelter for women and children, the City of Toronto Social Services Department in a variety of capacities and subsequent to moving to Bobcaygeon in 1983 also worked for the organization now know as the Early Years Centre.

Michal Wallen, Program Manager, Supportive Housing, Respite and Hospital to Home 

Michal leads Community Care’s Personal Support Services team in the development and delivery of Supportive Housing/ Assisted Living, In-Home Respite, Respite Care Unit and Hospital to Home services including Home At Last and Wrap Around. 

Following her graduation from the University of Toronto with a double major in Commerce and French, Michal spent several years in marketing in the private sector including with firms Outboard Marine, Sci-Can, Akzo Nobel, and Holsag Canada, which brought her back to her home town of Lindsay. Her last private sector position was as Director of Marketing with Revera Corporation at William Place Retirement Residence in Lindsay, where she was able to work closely with seniors and those needing a special level of care. Her move to Community Care provides her the opportunity to use her business experience and her rapport with seniors in the public sector. 

Michal’s volunteer activities include serving on public school councils, on local soccer fields as a coach, on the Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative (Family Doctor Recruitment Committee) and delivering her three athletic sons to innumerable sports events.
