Adult Day Service

The Adult Day Service offers social and physical activities for seniors and people with special needs who are usually confined to their homes - for people who are experiencing difficulty managing activities of daily living due to physical or memory impairment.

Caregiver Support Services

The Caregiver Support program offers regular opportunities for people who are responsible for the care of others to get respite and support opportunities. The program is designed to help caregivers of family members with health challenges to learn new skills, share knowledge, understand needs and grow positively.

Connecting Seniors

A personal growth series for seniors. "A Time for Me" works towards building awareness, strengths and promoting healthy aging, while "Senior Peer Helper Training" builds on strengths identified in "A Time for Me" so that participants are able to assist others needing help with issues related to aging. Diners’ Clubs

Held regularly at several locations throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes, Diners’ Clubs provide lunch, entertainment and great company. Transportation can be arranged if required.

Elder Abuse Program

Education, advocacy and assistance accessing community services and resources dedicated to elder abuse prevention.

Emergency Response

Alarm devices that can be activated in case of emergency. Staff and volunteers assist with installation of LifeLine System devices. Those who are experiencing poor health due to aging or illness can live comfortably knowing that help will come “at the push of a button.” Contact us for information about installation costs and monthly fees.

Falls Prevention

A specialized program for seniors, designed to proactively reduce the risk of falls and related injuries. Our Falls Prevention program helps seniors identify risks for falls, increase muscle strength and improve balance, agility and flexibility. Programs are offered regularly throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Friendly Visiting & Reassurance

Volunteers provide emotional support and friendship through home visits to those who feel isolated or alone. Screened volunteers are matched with clients and keep in touch through regular visits and/or phone calls, providing a sense of security and friendship to the homebound. Home Help & Homemaking

Community Care offers a listing of individuals who provide assistance with household activities, such as light housekeeping, meal preparation and shopping. We also have staff who provide homemaking and personal support services. Contact us for information about basic service fees.

 

Home Maintenance & Repair

Extra muscle for heavier chores, such as snow shoveling and cutting grass. Specialized services (plumbing, electrical work) may also be available. Call for information and costs.

Free assistance in linking you with other community services and resources. Call us for help, or visit our offices to what information we have from other agencies and organizations, including municipal, provincial and federal government programs.

 

 

Meals on Wheels

Volunteers deliver healthy, delicious meals to the home at affordable prices. Nutritional needs are met while social contact is provided to clients. Frozen and hot, cooked meals available. Meals are prepared according to the Canadian Food Guide and special diet options (diabetic, no salt, low fat, dental soft) are available. Transportation

Community Care provides a variety of volunteer and specialized transportation services for the community. These services are available for medical, social and/or recreational purposes. We work with you to provide you with the most appropriate transportation at the best time and lowest cost.

 

Care-A-Van

The Care-A-Van is available to anyone with special mobility needs who cannot ride in a car. This comfortable, five passenger vehicle is fully accessible. This service is also available for groups of four or more seniors who may book the van for an outing. The van is used primarily within the City of Kawartha Lakes; however, special arrangements can be made to travel to other destinations. Regular travel hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Weekend trips are available by pre-booking in advance.

Nissan Van

A comfortable six-passenger vehicle for individuals who are able to use regular transportation but may have other special needs.

Non-Emergency Transfer Vehicle

This van provides transportation for medical clients who are stable and do not require the emergency services of an ambulance. The van is equipped with stretcher and wheelchair capabilities.

Volunteer Drivers

Community Care volunteers provide transportation to clients in their own vehicles. This service improves provides transportation to medical appointments, shopping centres, social activities and more.
